Spikes
Spikes
Each spike measured one question on the Mac mini (Apple silicon, macOS 26.6.2; Apple container 1.5.0 where a container was involved) and wrote its results, scripts and raw output on a spike/* branch. They are published here as recorded; where a later measurement or decision changed a conclusion, a note at the top of the page says so, and the design is authoritative.
| Spike | Question | Issue |
|---|---|---|
| Agent contract | Claude Code, Codex CLI and Antigravity as headless agents: events, injection, approvals, resume and quota. | #1 |
| Apple Container | Lifecycle, storage, isolation, egress, an agent inside a container, recovery and the tool store on Apple Container 1.5.0. | #2 |
| Approvals and cancel | Routing Claude Code’s permission prompts over the stdio control protocol from a container, fail-closed cases, and cancel and resume mid-turn. | #7, #10 |
| Planted Claude Code config | Which hooks, MCP servers, skills and settings planted in a repository or the agent home take effect. | #68 |
| Host reachability | What a guest on Apple Container can reach on the host’s addresses, --internal networks included. | #69 |
| Bind mount versus volume | git status, copy and build times for a node_modules-style tree and a 153 000-file repository on a bind mount and on a volume. | #40 |
| A volume over a bind mount | Whether a volume mounted over a subdirectory of a bind-mounted checkout works, and what its mount point does in the guest. | #80 |
| Workspaces, bundles and the console | Streaming a git bundle out of a running environment, one agent against another in a clone, how far GIT_CONFIG_COUNT protects a console, and Fedora and Ubuntu LTS bases. | #89 |
| Devcontainer features | Whether common devcontainer features (node, python) can be fetched from ghcr.io and built into an image with container build on the Fedora and Ubuntu bases. | #108 |
| Builder image store | Whether container build resolves a FROM from the host’s local image store, for a whr.invalid/ name and a bare one, with and without --pull. | #133 |
A real whr serve | A real supervisor on Apple Container up to the agent’s first request: workspace, environment, sidecar, whr run, the login question; the bugs it found. | #27, #28 |
| Antigravity in a container | Google Antigravity in Apple Container: terms, auth discovery, stream-json shapes, egress proxy allowlist, process group cancellation and session resume. | #84 |
| musl builds of the agent CLIs | Whether Claude Code, Codex and Antigravity publish linux-arm64 musl builds, and the toolchains on musl: the evidence for Alpine as an agent base. | #152 |
| Agent subscription sign-in | Subscription sign-in inside an Apple Container environment under D40: Claude Code and Codex CLI flows, required egress hosts, persistence on the agent-home volume, concurrency, and phone-first feasibility. | #82 |
| MCP over the control channel | Whether the supervisor can answer an SDK-type MCP server over Claude Code’s stdio control channel, guest reachability, and MCP in Codex and Antigravity (prepared, not yet run). | #174, #129 |
